Leisure & entertainment: a taste of Brazilian culture

The conference will offer the following cultural and entertainment opportunities to the attendees:

Curitiba sightseeing: an afternoon tour bus through the city, including 25 spots, such as parks, MON - Oscar Niermayer Museum of Contemporary Art; Opera de Arame - a glass and iron open concert hall, and the old city centre, with its shops and cafes.




Samba class
: conference participants will have the opportunity to enjoy the Brazilian rhythm by attending a samba class (Carlinhos Moura and Katia Souza, instructors)

Serra do Mar day trip (Tour to Morretes and Antonina): It is a beautiful journey by train going down the Serra do Mar Hills, through the Atlantic Forest (Mata Atlantica) to the colonial cities of Morretes and Antonina with its lovely manorhouses (optional). http://www.serraverdeexpress.com.br/en/inicial.php

Itinerary: Curitiba - Morretas - Antonina -Curitiba

Transfer to Curitiba Train Station to take the train to Morretes City. We will travel through 110 Km of 19th century railway, where we will find 13 tunnels, 30 bridges and many viaducts. We will arrive in Morretes at 10:40am. Morretes was founded in 1733, and it is located near sea mountains. We continue our trip by bus to the old Antonina City, founded in 1714. Then, we will come back to Morretes for lunch, at 12:30pm. After lunch, a brief tour in Morretes and return to Curitiba through the Graciosa highway. Arrival at Curitiba around 04:00pm.

Price includes: train ticket and snack in the train, lunch in Morretes, tours in Morretes and Antonina, and van transportation.

Departure from hotel at 7:15hs am.

For those accompanying the attendees, we suggest the following attractions (not in association with the conference):

Day trip to Vila Velha [the Old Village]
a site with a number of massive rocks sculpted by erosion, resembling objects, such: a cup and a bottle.

Old city centre
A visit to the old part of the city, with its lovely streets full of shops, cafes, restaurants, the city hall museums, and exhibitions.

Shopping malls
Curitiba has lively and nice options for shopping. The Crystal, The Muller, The Curitiba and The Barigui are the main shopping malls of the city with a variety of stores, bars, restaurants, cinemas, and exhibits.


The Iguaçu Falls
t is a must seeing Brazilian wonder [five times Niagara Falls], 50 min flight from Curitiba. It is located in the Foz de Iguaçu city, Paraná State, in the border with Paraguay and Argentina. To see all nature offers and other attractions [Wild Birds Park, Macuco Safari, etc], you will need about 3 days (http://www.portalfoz.com.br).
