call for papers
We would like to invite you to submit a proposal to the IVLA2007.
Proposals regarding the conference theme Visual Literacy beyond frontiers: information, culture and diversityare especially welcome. However, we will also welcome proposals concerning other visual literacy topics such as:
- Education, Teaching, and Learning
- Societal and Community Issues
- Cultural Influences, Impacts, and Considerations
- Historic Uses and Approaches
- Research, Theories, and Definitions
- Transformative Functions
- Future Trends and Directions
- Communication and Artistic Expression
- Ethical, Social, and Philosophical Concerns
The following formats of presentations will be accepted in the conference:
A- On-site Presentation

B- On-line Presentation
In addition, you may submit a proposal for a virtual paper, poster, or workshop session. Authors whose virtual proposal has been accepted, will need to further submit the following documents in PDF format by September 15th:
- Power Point slideshow (6 slides) with a short narrative/script accompanying each slide,
- the final draft of their paper, and
- a handout with a list of specific questions/issues for discussion with the audience
Accepted virtual presentations will be on permanent display in a designated conference area (on-site). They will also be posted to our Blackboard-supported online platform. Both on-site and on-line conference participants will have access to these presentations and their material, and may communicate electronically with the virtual presenters throughout the IVLA2007 conference. Toward that end, the conference organizers will provide computer and internet access throughout the duration of IVLA2007.
Please note that virtual presentations will take place a-synchronously (i.e. no same time).
Proposals submission Format

Proposals should be submitted as a long abstract (500 to 1000 words), which will be assessed via peer-review process. The proposals should be presented as follows:

- Provide the presentation type (on-site or on-line)
- Provide the presentation title
- List all presenters, including all names, titles, organizations, contact information, and whether or not a member of IVLA. Please designate which presenter is the key contact.
- Include a 50 to 60 word abstract suitable for inclusion in the conference program. Be sure to include the purpose, session outcome, intended audience, and the type of presentation proposed, as defined in the above table.
- Indicate the media to be used. Computer (PC), data projectors and screens will be provided. All other equipment should be supplied by presenters.

- Provide the presentation title
- Indicate the requested presentation type and duration
- Provide a minimum 500 to maximum 1000 word anonymous description, including:
- Introduction
- Purpose or problem
- Methods or process for practice
- Approach or results
- Summary/conclusion
- References

Proposals deadline
Proposals should be submitted electronically by Saturday, May 12, 2007. Authors will be notified regarding the acceptance or rejection of their proposal by the end of May 2007.

Peer-Review Publication: Book of Selected Readings
Authors whose proposals are accepted, may also submit them as a full paper to be considered for IVLA’s refereed collection of Selected Readings (published in 2008). This year, the paper submission deadline is September 15th. Submission guidelines (in word and pdf format) for the book of Selected Readings can be downloaded from ivla.org/publications.htm
